What is Functional Medicine?
Functional Medicine addresses underlying conditions involving physiological processes (hormone balance, oxidative stress, glucose regulation, etc) rather than focusing on specific symptoms alone. By utilizing laboratory assessments and health history questionnaires that take into account bio individuality and metabolic processes the root causes of many complex health conditions can be addressed in a more natural and effective manner.
Steps for Using Functional Medicine
Our Wellness Coach Gwyn Davis, having received training and certification from Functional Medicine University, will give In-depth questionnaires to get a well-rounded picture of a person’s health history and symptoms that are bothering them. Nutrition (including food logs), current medications and supplements, as well as medical testing and lab work are collected and evaluated. Based on these things, additional lab work may be recommended to shed further light on what is going on within the body.
The additional testing can be ordered from the clients personal physician or from a recommend lab. Once all forms and tests have been completed and reviewed, a personalized plan will be developed which will focus on diet, supplements, movement, and stress reduction techniques designed to restore the client's health.
What Results Can You Expect?
This method of healing takes the whole person into account, rather than looking at pieces and parts of a person’s issue. Functional Medicine will help balance the nervous system, thereby allowing the body to heal in its own natural way.
Functional Medicine practitioners are not doctors and do not claim to cure any disease. However, with the right diet and lifestyle changes, we can greatly increase the efficiency of a person’s metabolic processes, which will in turn balance the immune and hormonal systems. Conditions such as osteoporosis, hormonal imbalance, thyroid, heart, auto immune, diabetes, and many more can all be helped using this method.
