Neuromuscular Therapy Course
Every couple of years I have to attend continuing education courses to maintain my national massage certification. Since massage school, I’ve had an interest in neuromuscular therapy (NMT) and when I became involved in the CHEK Institute, I heard numerous things from practitioners about St. John Seminars course in NMT. So, I attended the 120 hour course the last two weeks in February this year and wow, what great information. There were 5 courses during the two weeks: Cervical Injuries, Postural Analysis and Pelvic Stabilization; Pain Mechanisms of the Low Back; Shoulder, Upper Torso, Spinal column and Extremities; TMJ Dysfunction, Hands, Feet and Eyes; as well as Neuromuscular Components of Cranial Decompression and Scoliosis. The instructor was Mark Brinson who has a practice in Tampa, FL. He was very knowledgeable and has started working in a clinic with a couple of CHEK practitioners. In addition to teaching the St. John courses he has also started teaching some of his own seminars, which I’m looking forward to attending in the future
I have to say, in the last couple of weeks I’ve had several opportunities to work on clients using the NMT techniques and they are without a doubt very effective. I had one client who came to see me in a great deal of pain, nearly unable to open her mouth. A couple weeks prior she had spent a couple hours in the dentist office and had been in pain every since. I got an email from her after just one session saying she left the center feeling 50% better and by two days later 90% of the pain was gone. Helping people get out of pain and dysfunction is certainly a passion of mine and I’m looking forward to using these new techniques to do just that!
